Band (Jazz Band, Summer Band, Solo/Ensemble) Beginner Band is open to all fifth-grade students. Students are tested during the first week of the school year to determine which instrument best suits their natural gifts. A parent information meeting is held the following week to discuss rental options and the specific goals of the program. No prior music training is necessary. Rehearsal is held twice a week in full group band which is opposite their study hall. Small group half-hour lessons are given during the week for instrument-specific instruction. Concerts are performed during the year.
Sixth Grade Band is open to all sixth-grade students. Students rehearse twice a week in full group band opposite their study hall. Small group half-hour lessons are given during the week for instrument-specific instruction. Concerts are performed throughout the year and students also perform in pep band concerts.
Advanced Band is open to all seventh and eighth-grade students with prior music experience. Students rehearse three times a week in full group band during fifth-hour (study hall/electives). Small group half-hour lessons are given during the week for instrument-specific instruction. The Advanced Band performs a variety of traditional, classical, pop, and jazz compositions in their various concerts throughout the year, including performances. Students also participate in the district solo and ensemble competitions.
